Does former WWE United States Champion Ricochet have backstage heat in AEW? Wrestling veteran Konnan believes so.
The 36-year-old star became All Elite at AEW All In in London earlier this year when he made a surprise appearance and participated in the Casino Gauntlet Match. The enthralling bout featuring many top stars was won by Christian Cage.
Speaking on his Keepin' It 100 podcast, Konnan stated that AEW hasn't done justice to Ricochet's potential ever since he joined Tony Khan's roster. He believed Mr. High Fly should've won the Casino Gauntlet match at All In. He added that the former WWE star is having an underwhelming run in the Jacksonville-based promotion and garnering backstage heat. It could be due to his outspoken personality.
"He hasn't been used well. When they brought him in for that gauntlet, he should have won. Maybe, who knows backstage I can ask people that would know that maybe he's more outspoken now... Since he wasn't used well in WWE and you have only a small window to make that big money, okay, if not you're on the Indies grinding and he probably maybe more outspoken, and that's gotten him heat but bro, they used them wrong from the minute he came in," Konnan said. Ricochet teases a heel turn in AEW
During an interview with Barstool's Rasslin podcast, Ricochet confessed to having dark thoughts. He admitted that sometimes he thinks of using immoral means for his benefit, thus subtly hinting that he might be inclined towards turning heel.
"The older you get, the less that [comes up] and the more you kind of do start thinking, maybe I need to do what I need to do to get to where I want to get to just like everybody else has been doing. They don’t mind it. So maybe, it does start to creep in there, maybe I do need to start,” he said.
Ricochet has been babyface in AEW since his debut at All In back in August. He is one of the participants in the 2024 Continental Classic in the Gold League. Will he win the tournament? Only time will tell.
