Sting retired from in-ring competition after 39 years at AEW Revolution on March 3. Former WCW and WWE star Lex Luger recently shared his thoughts on how his long-time friend's career ended.

Having initially retired during his 2016 WWE Hall of Fame induction, Sting returned to the ring in 2021 with AEW. The 65-year-old teamed up with Darby Allin to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks in his final match.

Luger received permission to attend the event despite being contracted to WWE as an ambassador. Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, The Total Package only had positive things to say about AEW's handling of Sting:

"I did [see Sting's retirement], I was there," Luger said. "They allowed me to be there. It was fabulous. What a career. Who would have imagined spanning five decades of time, really? 80s, 90s, 2000s, 10s, into five decades. Absolutely incredible. I didn't know [how Sting would retire], but I thought it was great. The way they did it, I thought it was fabulous, Bill." [1:53 – 2:21]

In the video above, Luger disclosed details about his current WWE role. The two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion also gave his thoughts on Bret Hart blaming Bill Goldberg for his career-ending injury.

Lex Luger's history with Sting

In 1985, Lex Luger and Sting began their wrestling careers. Both men joined Jim Crockett Promotions two years later and quickly established themselves as potential stars of the future.

Luger and Sting won the Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament in 1988. They also feuded over the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in 1992 before reuniting to capture the WCW tag title in 1996.

Both men remain close friends to this day and often discuss their Christian faith at speaking events. In the same interview, Luger added that he would like Sting to induct him into the Hall of Fame if he ever receives an offer from WWE.
