Maria Kanellis recently updated her fans on a heartbreaking incident. She revealed her grandmother had passed away.
The former WWE star took to Instagram to disclose that her grandmother, who was 95, passed away on Monday. She wrote a lengthy and emotional goodbye note for her late grandma, describing all the qualities that made her special.
"My YaiYai passed away on Monday. Maria Kanellis, my synónymos, was 95 years old. YaiYai was an incredibly strong, hardworking, and fearless woman from Sparta, Greece. YaiYai never learned to drive, so when she would babysit us, we would walk everywhere. And even still she would be in a skirt, blouse, scarf, clip on earrings, and kitten heals. She used to garden with her bare calloused hands and a kitchen knife in a skirt and loved to play cards while drinking ouzo." [Check out the full quotes on her post.]
Many wrestling stars from AEW and WWE, like Lita and Renee Paquette, consoled Maria after hearing about the unfortunate update. They wished her strength, peace, and comfort in this difficult time.

Maria Kanellis to go under the knife
A while ago, Maria Kanellis disclosed the doctors had discovered a mass in her adrenal gland during a CT scan. She recently had another doctor's appointment, which helped clarify her current condition.
She stated that the mass present in her body is a cause of concern, which is why she is likely to have surgery sometime in September this year. She added she will also have a retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy and then a biopsy afterward.
Maria hasn't been seen inside the ring since 2019. Her last match was on WWE Monday Night RAW, where she partnered with her husband Mike Bennet in a mixed match against the couple Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. Maria now works under the AEW banner, which she joined in 2022.
