Samoa Joe has performed in numerous companies around the globe, including TNA, WWE, Ring of Honor, and more. He is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling, where he is a former AEW and World Champion and a former TNT Champion.
Apart from wrestling, Samoa Joe is a part-time actor. He plays a character named Sweet Tooth in the post-apocalyptic action comedy Twisted Metal, which had its first season released in 2023 and has just concluded its second season. The Samoan Submission Machine has been absent from AEW for the last few months due to his shooting schedule. Since he is finally free, there is a huge possibility that he will come back soon.
The show's writer/showrunner, Michael Jonathan Smith, shared the news of Twisted Metal Season 2's filming's conclusion on his Instagram. This announcement could mean that Joe can finally return to pro wrestling.
"That’s a wrap on production of Twisted Metal s2! Enjoy these non-spoiler pictures, including me watching our final shot of the season. We went out with a bang! This production was unforgettable. Our incredibly talented cast and crew brought the thunder and helped deliver something truly special. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this season even bigger than the first one. Now… off to post. #twistedmetal," read Smith's update.
Samoa Joe explains how AEW stands out from the other promotions he's been a part of
In an interview earlier this year, Joe called All Elite Wrestling a touchstone of international wrestling and praised the company for making several dream matches possible.
"When you talk about AEW, it’s a touchstone of international wrestling. It’s a place where we work across company lines, your favorite superstars from anywhere in the world can show up along with your favorite American stars. That’s what I think the biggest difference is. In AEW, a lot of matchups that might not have been possible anywhere else are always a possibility here," Joe said. [H/T Medium]
Samoa Joe's last match in AEW was against Chris Jericho in a Stampede Street Fight in July earlier this year.
