Mark Henry shared his views on a Hall of Famer's first singles match after over 250 days in AEW. The star in question is Jeff Jarrett.
The World's Strongest Man discussed the quarterfinal round match between Jeff Jarrett and the returning Hangman Adam Page, who The Elite had chosen as the mystery wild card entry in the 2024 Men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament on AEW Dynamite: Beach Break last week. The bout saw The Anxious Millennial Cowboy tap into rarely-witnessed aggression as he dominantly defeated Jarrett, despite the brave fight that The Last Outlaw put up.
The match was also the WWE Hall of Famer's first singles match in the company since defeating Eddie Kingston in a Memphis Street Fight on the October 21, 2023 episode of Collision.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Mark Henry praised the match between Page and Jarrett and highlighted the elements of conventional, old-school wrestling that made it memorable. He also complimented The Hangman's performance against the 56-year-old veteran.
"I was like, this is wrestling! They worked Jeff's style, and Page looked like a million bucks! He looked like a million bucks without all the s**t... See? Your honor, the evidence is right in front of you! He had a match against an aging wrestler, worked a traditional American wrestling style, and it worked."
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion further emphasized the importance of wrestlers channeling sincere passion and authenticity to invite audience investment.
"Our job is to go out there and suspend belief. You need to be tuned into the eyes and the soul. And when you're in here, and you're in here? It's real. And I've heard fans say before 'It's real to me, damn it!' And get emotional and that's what Jeff did, and Page was right there next to him," Henry said. [H/T Wrestling Inc]
Jeff Jarrett will act as a special guest enforcer for Hangman Page vs Bryan Danielson on AEW Dynamite
After defeating Jeff Jarrett in the 2024 Owen Hart Cup quarterfinals, Hangman Adam Page defeated Jay White last week on AEW Collision. At one point during the match, while the referee was down and out, Page used his belt to whip and choke out The Switchblade. However, Jarrett himself marched down to the ring to snatch the belt away from the Virginia native, seemingly intending for the contest to play out without any illegal tactics.
However, after eating a spear from Christian Cage, White suffers a Buckshot Lariat from Page, which leads the latter to victory. The match's outcome did not sit well with Jarrett, who met Tony Khan and interim EVP Christopher Daniels backstage.
The King of the Mountain complained about the chaos during Page vs. White, leading to TK agreeing to ban The BCC and The Elite from ringside during the finals bout between Bryan Danielson and Page on the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite. Khan also named Jarrett the special guest enforcer for the match.
It remains to be seen whether Hangman Page or The American Dragon will head to All In 2024 to compete for the AEW World Championship.
