AEW star Saraya recalls her WWE Tryout

Saraya signed with WWE in 2013 and quickly became a huge star on both NXT and the promotion's main roster. The former Paige also helped develop the women's revolution in the Stamford-based promotion and was a key figure in kicking off the era.

In a recent edition of the Broad Ideas podcast, former Divas Champion Saraya opened up about her WWE Tryout. She revealed how the hurtful comments of a former employee made her feel down about herself as she was only 18.

"I was 18 at the time, I did the [WWE] tryout and they were just like, ‘No,’ and there was a guy at the time that worked as T.R. that pretty much said I wasn’t pretty enough to be there too, which broke my heart [… ] He doesn’t work there anymore. He hasn’t worked there for years but he said, you know, I wasn’t pretty enough to be there and I needed to lose some baby weight and all that kind of stuff. I was a kid and I was like, oh, that’s kind of hard to deal with and I tried to dress like how I thought divas should dress, right?" she said.

Saraya left the WWE in 2022 and made her huge AEW debut in the same year. It will be interesting to see if the Jacksonville-based promotion makes her the Women's World Champion once again in the future.
