The stars of AEW spent the final weekend of 2024 doing what they do best: wrestle. Top All Elite regulars were in Orlando for the second annual Worlds End pay-per-view, while various part-timers were booked elsewhere in the United States, Mexico, and Japan. One of the biggest stars of the modern era worked a special match today but the fantastic in-ring action was brought to an unfortunate end.
El Hijo del Vikingo finally made his UK in-ring debut. The fan-favorite lucha star debuted for PROGRESS Wrestling at Chapter 175 on Sunday, live from Electric Ballroom in London, England. Vikingo's opening match against Kid Lykos II was described as fantastic until a botched sunset flip led to a disastrous injury to the former AAA Mega Champion. The clash had to be stopped after the referee threw up the dreaded X symbol to call for help.
The 27-year-old was checked out by his opponent, medics, and officials. Vikingo was later helped to the backstage area as Connor Mills attacked Lykos II, bringing out Kid Lykos for the save. The official PROGRESS account on X (fka Twitter) confirmed that the lucha star had suffered an injury, but no other details were provided. The top UK company did look ahead to a return for the former Crash Heavyweight Champion.
"Vikingo vs Lykos II was stopped early due to an unfortunate injury to Vikingo. He will get checked over by our medical team, and we hope for a speedy recovery, and a return to a PROGRESS ring in the future. #Unboxing7," the statement read.

Vikingo's last official AEW match was the International Championship contender's Fatal Four Way on Rampage in late January. Komander won the bout, which also featured Kip Sabian and The Butcher. He then defeated Johnny TV and Nick Wayne on the Chris Jericho cruise but teamed up with Penta El Zero Miedo and Komander for a loss to Action Andretti and Top Flight on the last night. Vikingo then wrestled at the ROH TV tapings on January 31 but has not worked for Tony Khan since.
