Matt Hardy firmly believes 41-year-old star should win the AEW World Championship

Former AEW star Matt Hardy wants to see a top name become World Champion of All Elite Wrestling. This star had a dominant reign as World Champion before and is none other than the recently returned Kenny Omega.

In December 2023, Omega was diagnosed with diverticulitis, which led to him being out of action for more than a year. At AEW x NJPW Wrestle Dynasty, Kenny Omega made his in-ring return and defeated Gabe Kidd. The Cleaner made his return to All Elite Wrestling television on the recent episode of Dynamite. He is set to make his All Elite Wrestling in-ring return on the January 15, episode of Dynamite where he will face Brian Cage.

In the recent edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the former WWE United States Champion called Kenny Omega a true pillar of All Elite Wrestling and pushed the idea of The Cleaner becoming a World Champion again. Hardy said he wants to see Kenny Omega in a significant role on All Elite Wrestling programming as it could help bring back some lost fans.

“I got to see the majority of that match, I didn’t watch it from beginning to end, but I did get to see a majority. Kenny looked great, he looked super motivated, he looked healthy and fit. He looked at his best. Kenny Omega is so special, I’ve always talked about this, everyone knows when I was in AEW I talked about how special of a performer he is. I know there was a point where you said he would be a great guy to throw back out and give him a run to the championship and win back some of the lapsed fans and I don’t disagree with that. I think Kenny Omega is a true pillar of AEW, he’s one of the guys who started the whole AEW movement back in the beginning with the Bucks and Cody obviously. Yeah, I would love to see Kenny Omega in a significant role each and every week on TV, I think that would help out the brand.” [H/T:Fightful]

Thunder Rosa calls Kenny Omega the essence of AEW

Kenny Omega helped bring All Elite Wrestling to life with Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks in 2019. During a recent chat on the Busted Open Radio, Thunder Rosa praised Kenny Omega and his performance at Wrestle Dynasty. She further called The Cleaner the essence of All Elite Wrestling and why the promotion was established.

"I haven't seen Kenny in so long and he looked absolutely amazing [on Wrestle Dynasty]," Thunder Rosa said. "I feel like Kenny's like the essence of AEW and why [All Elite Wrestling] was created."

We will have to wait and see how Tony Khan books Kenny Omega in All Elite Wrestling this year.
