Matt Hardy joined AEW in March 2020 and remained with the company until April of this year. The veteran worked with a variety of talents in the Jackonville-based promotion, from Hook to The Young Bucks to Christian Cage. Matt and his brother, Jeff Hardy, both had unfortunate experiences with a top star and now Matt has revealed that he discussed one such issue with Chris Jericho.

Big Money Matt used "cursed" to describe his 2020 feud with Sammy Guevara, which included a head injury from the All Out scissor lift incident in September of that year. Hardy had also needed 13 stitches after being busted open on the August 5 edition of Dynamite, when the 31-year-old botched a chair toss. It was reported that Guevara had backstage heat for grabbing the wrong chair.

On a recent episode of Extreme Life, Matt recalled The Spanish God being "a little antsy" and rushing for timing reasons during the taping. The 32-year industry veteran wanted Sammy to throw the chair Sabu-style, so he could protect himself with his hands, but the youngster chose the wrong chair out of several at ringside because he "didn't take his time" and "just panicked." Matt also revealed going to fellow veteran, Chris Jericho about the incident.

"It rocked me. People were mad at Sammy. I came back and had a stern conversation with him, like, 'Man, you’ve got to take your time.' I wasn't screaming and yelling, just like, 'I know it was an accident.' He was so insanely apologetic, he really felt like s**t, and terrible. We just kind of chalked it up. I remember talking to Chris Jericho about it, and we’re just like, 'Hey, we gotta just chalk this up and use this now. This gives us some ammunition because everybody’s talking about it, hopefully it ends up a happy accident," Matt Hardy said. [From 44:28 to 45:00]

Matt detailed his stern backstage discussion with Guevara, terming it as the only time he was "truly upset" with him. He noted that he reminded the youngster to always take his time because the most important thing was protecting one's opponent. He also said that The Spanish God was very upset about the incident himself.

"So, he had a stern talking, 'Dude, you can’t rush if you get out there and there’s something going on, just think about, if you throw that chair, the damage it could do, because the most important thing is protecting your opponent when out there [...] very, very important.' I think he took all that to heart, and really felt bad for it. That was the only time I was really, truly upset with him, and we had this stern talking afterwards," Matt added. [From 45:06 to 45:31]

Hardy left AEW in early April when his contract expired, returning to TNA days later. Jeff's contract expired in mid-June, and he too immediately returned to the same promotion. The 46-year-old Hardy too has had issues with Sammy in his last match for AEW.

Sammy Guevara wins ROH gold on AEW TV

AEW suspended Sammy Guevara for not following concussion protocols during his No DQ Rampage win over Jeff Hardy in mid-February. He lost a Collision No DQ match to Powerhouse Hobbs ten days later and did not return until the July 28 ROH tapings.

Upon returning Sammy aligned with Dustin Rhodes against The Dark Order, which led to a tag team win on ROH. The 31-year-old defeated then Ariya Daivari in his singles return, and thereafter teamed with the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions, Dustin and The Von Erichs, to defeat The Undisputed Kingdom and Cage of Agony.

The Spanish God's AEW TV return came on Collision two weeks ago as he and Dustin dethroned The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) of the ROH World Tag Team Championship.
