A former WWE star recently praised AEW star Mercedes Mone's character evolution after she left her former workplace. The star who lavished praise on the CEO is none other than former WWE star Matt Hardy. The multi-time tag team champion worked in AEW for four years and is currently a part of TNA.

Mercedes was 'The Boss' in WWE and switched between being a babyface and a heel several times. After arriving at AEW, she introduced her CEO gimmick and was a babyface. However, as time went on, she showed her true colors and gradually turned heel. She has also wrestled top-notch matches since her debut.

While speaking on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt stated that Mercedes Mone adapted as per the AEW audience which differs from the WWE crowd, meaning she focused more on wrestling rather than character work.

"I think she was kind of figuring out her way as all that was going down. And then once she realized like, ‘Oh, maybe I can tweak it up. And here it’s a little less about the persona.’ You can kind of tune it down a little bit, and they would rather tune up the work. So maybe that is what started clicking. Because it really is. It’s like two different audiences, you know if you’re playing to a WWE-type crowd to an AEW-type crowd," he said. [H/T - EWrestling News]

Mercedes Mone achieved a major feat in AEW

The TBS Champion has wrestled some great matches in 2024. Despite the promotion having top female stars, the company didn't have any of their matches go above 20 minutes. However, at Worlds End, Mercedes Mone and Kris Statlander fought for over 24 minutes and had the longest women's match in the history of AEW.

After the win, the CEO took to X/Twitter and claimed that she was the "greatest TBS Champion of all time."

"Leaving 2024 speechless! Forever the greatest TBS champion of all time! #AEWWorldsEnd #CEO," she wrote.

It remains to be seen who will challenge her next in 2025.
