AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, recently opened up on her decision to leave WWE a few years ago. She detailed the thought process behind her decision as well.
Mercedes Mone was one of the top female stars on the WWE roster before allegedly walking out of the company in 2022 due to creative issues. She endured her wrestling career by signing with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) later and is currently a top star in AEW as the reigning TBS Champion.
While speaking on the HOT 97 podcast recently, Mercedes opened up on how she eventually decided to depart from WWE after spending a decade of her career there. The CEO almost detailed that it was the hardest decision of her whole life.
"The biggest thing is just listening to my heart and my soul, something didn't felt [sic] right that day, how we were talked to didn't settle in my heart, and I just instantly knew like if I wasn't going to take control of my life right here and now, then I was never going to be happy there by having someone talk to me the way that they do or feeling like you just don't belong [...] To be with that company for 10 years and to walk out was the hardest decision I've ever made in my whole life," Mercedes Mone said. What plans Tony Khan has in store for The CEO remains to be seen.
Mercedes Mone had a face-off with a returning AEW star
At the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door III Pay-Per-View, Mercedes Mone successfully defended her TBS Championship and also became the new NJPW Strong Women's Champion by defeating CMLL star, Stephanie Vaquer. However, she was later confronted by Britt Baker, who made her return to the Jacksonville-based promotion after over nine months.
It seems like The CEO is going to feud with Baker in the coming weeks which could lead to an eventual dream match. It remains to be seen what Tony Khan has in store for both women.
