Will Ospreay has been flying high in AEW this year, but a real-life loss has brought him back to earth just days before his World Championship match at Forbidden Door 2024. On Tuesday night, The Aerial Assassin received news that his grandmother had passed away, and several wrestling stars have offered their condolences.

Will Ospreay teamed up with AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland on Dynamite this week. The two are scheduled to face off for Strickland's title in the main event of Forbidden Door this Sunday, and the champ reminded his opponent who he was dealing with to close out last night's show.

The night before Wednesday's show, Ospreay got word that his grandmother had passed away. He released a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram account earlier today.

AEW plants seeds for the fall of Will Ospreay

Since becoming a full-time member of AEW's roster, Will Ospreay has been virtually unstoppable. The 31-year-old has wowed fans with his unrivaled athleticism, demonstrated his intensity on the mic, and hasn't lost a match yet. But that could all come crashing down this Sunday at Forbidden Door.

Ospreay has twice snatched the AEW World Championship out of Swerve Strickland's hands, and the former paid for it last night on Dynamite. The Aerial Assassin has also been getting some dark looks from former World Champion MJF.

Last week, Ospreay and The Wolf of Wrestling shared a tense moment in the ring. On this week's Dynamite, the 31-year-old interrupted a heartfelt moment between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Daniel Garcia.

Despite The Aerial Assassin's in-ring prowess, he's continuously antagonized other top stars around him, including those who may have been on friendly or neutral terms with him. While it's difficult to predict who will walk out of Forbidden Door with the AEW World Championship, fans are beginning to suspect that Ospreay may be humbled by Swerve Strickland.

In that case, it seems that the company is planting seeds for MJF to finish the high-flying star off and send him spiraling back to Earth. Only time will tell whether Will Ospreay can climb out of the hole he seems to have dug for himself.
