MJF recently sent a presumably in-character birthday message to AEW head honcho, Tony Khan. The post also seemingly references an insult the former World Champion had hurled at Khan in a past promo.

Following his loss to Wardlow at Double or Nothing 2022, MJF appeared on Dynamite and cut an incendiary promo, voicing his frustrations about being overlooked in favor of a newly-signed ex-WWE talent and about not being granted due acknowledgment for his star-making work in AEW.

The promo blurred the lines between storyline and reality as it was delivered on the heels of rumors surrounding Friedman's reported frustrations and disagreements with Tony Khan. It was concluded abruptly when The Salt of the Earth's mic was cut off moments after he hurled a profanity-laced insult at the All Elite CEO, following which MJF would seemingly disappear from AEW programming until his All Out 2022 comeback.

Tony Khan recently celebrated his 42nd birthday on October 10, 2024. MJF took to X (fka Twitter) to seemingly convey his wishes to the All Elite Wrestling President for the occasion, albeit cheekily referencing his remarks for TK from what has been dubbed the former AEW World Champion's "pipe-bomb" promo. "Happy birthday you f****** mark," read MJF's post.

What was MJF up to before his current AEW absence

Prior to his programming hiatus, MJF had been engaged in a blood feud with Daniel Garcia, after the latter cost him the All Elite Wrestling American Championship against Will Ospreay at All In 2024. Friedman took on and defeated The Red Death at All Out in September, but would be destroyed by Garcia in a retaliatory post-match assault.

The Wolf of Wrestling, according to reports, recently concluded filming for the upcoming Kyle Newacheck-directed comedy Happy Gilmore 2. Daniel Garcia, on the other hand, made his return to All Elite Wrestling programming this week on Dynamite, declaring that he was staying on in the Tony Khan-led company.

It remains to be seen whether MJF will go after Garcia to resume their rivalry upon making his own All Elite Wrestling return.
