MJF is the current AEW American Champion. He won this title last month on Dynamite 250 by defeating the previous title holder, Will Ospreay, in a memorable nearly hour-long showdown. Since the introduction of the belt, it has been previously known as the AEW International Championship. However, upon winning it, Friedman changed its name to the AEW American Championship.
MJF recently made his in-ring debut in CMLL, a well-known Mexican wrestling promotion. On their latest Viernes Espectacular show, he faced the CMLL World Middleweight Champion, Templario. This was a title match as the AEW American Championship was on the line. Unsurprisingly, The Salt of the Earth defeated his opponent and successfully defended his title.
The 28-year-old star recently found himself in a controversy due to a backstage issue with Britt Baker. Reports suggest that the former AEW Women's World Champion has received a fine and a 1-2 week suspension.
The match mentioned above was Friedman's first-ever title defense. After the showdown, he violently attacked Templario, and the latter's friend, KeMalito, to establish dominance. MJF's next title defense is against RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion, Michael Oku, at RevPro Summer Sizzler 2024.
AEW star MJF's girlfriend Alicia Atout reveals what he is like in real life
In a recent episode of AEW Unrestricted, MJF's girlfriend, Alicia Atout, candidly spoke about how he was when the cameras were not on him. She jokingly stated that the current AEW American Champion, in real life, is exactly how he is on TV.
"I can point blank say that he's a pain in my a** guys. Big time. Everything you see is the truth. I'm very much enjoying the big home that he brags about all of the time and our cat Piper is a fabulous fabulous thing. The Porsche is a little much for me, but you know, it makes him happy. And when he's happy he nags at me less. So one day at a time. You find the happy moments amongst all the fighting and bickering and frustration," Alicia Atout said.
MJF will defend the AEW American Championship against Will Ospreay at the All In 2024 Pay-Per-View, which is scheduled to take place later this month, at Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom.
