A newly crowned champion and budding star from AEW is set to defend his title at an upcoming event. The talent in question is none other than Konosuke Takeshita.
The Alpha has captured the respect and investment of All Elite Wrestling viewers over the past several months, courtesy of his incredible development and unmatched athletic prowess. Takeshita had his first taste of AEW gold at WrestleDream 2024 this past Saturday when he dethroned Will Ospreay to become the new International Champion in a three-way match also involving Ricochet.
On the heels of the pay-per-view, it was reported that Takeshita's upcoming match with TNA's Josh Alexander, scheduled for Night Two of MLP Forged In Excellence, will now be contested with the International Title on the line. The announcement was later made in an official capacity by Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling on the promotion's X/Twitter channel.
"It's Official! As first reported by @PWInsidercom, Night Two's main event between AEW's Konosuke @Takesoup and TNA's @Walking_Weapon Josh Alexander is now for Takeshita's newly won @AEW International Championship! Takeshita's first title defence is this Sunday October 20 at #MLPForgedInExcellence!" said MLP's tweet.

Konosuke Takeshita's AEW title win was accompanied by a major heel turn
All Elite Wrestling presented an unforgettable triple-threat match between Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Konosuke Takeshita for the International Championship at WrestleDream 2024. The bout was a high-octane, fast-paced, and hard-hitting affair, with The Aerial Assassin and The Human Highlight Reel showing off their signature high-flying capabilities, and the Japanese phenomenon fighting back against both by utilizing his strength and skill.
Ultimately, however, it was Takeshita's Don Callis Family stablemate Kyle Fletcher who would prove to be the difference maker. The Protostar stunned fans by turning on Ospreay - his long-time "best friend" and ally - and hitting him with a screwdriver. This opened the door for Takeshita to pin The Commonwealth Kingpin and become the new International Champion.
Fletcher would proceed to lay out Ospreay with a devastating Tiger Drive 91 before leaving with Takeshita and Don Callis.
