Fans recently reacted to an AEW star's announcement after an injury scare last month. The star being discussed is Athena. She was a top star in WWE's NXT brand but failed to get over on the main roster.

The War Goddess made her AEW debut in 2022 and made a huge impact in the women's division. After performing in the company for a few months, she became a mainstay in Tony Khan's other promotion Ring of Honor. Not only did she dominate the roster, she became an indomitable ROH Women's World Champion.

Athena is currently the longest-reigning champion and has held the title for more than 557 days. Back in May during an ROH taping, she injured her ankle in a match against Viva Van. Nevertheless, she still walked out as the champion. A recent report stated that the injury she sustained wasn't severe and would wrestle in just a span of a few weeks.

However, the new update by Athena tells otherwise. On the recent ROH episode, she confirmed that she will be sidelined for about four to six months. The War Goddess also announced that she would still be holding the championship and not vacate it.

Fans were upset after her announcement as she would be out of action for a while. Many said she should join WWE under Triple H's regime as they believe it is less injury-prone.

One fan suggested that everyone was getting injured in AEW. Another stated that she was injury prone, while some other fans wished her well on her road to recovery.

AEW star Athena says she is 'tiers above' Mercedes Mone

The ROH Women's Champion talked about the TBS Champion ahead of her debut which happened in March 2024.

Speaking on Good Karma Wrestling, the War Goddess praised the CEO and later claimed that she is levels above Mercedes.

She [Mercedes Mone] adds star power. She adds confidence, right? Like I think for so long, we as a women’s division, especially in AEW, we’re having these great matches, and we had stars, right? But we were trying to breach the ceiling of star power, and I think Mercedes Mone brings that to the table. [...] Now, with that being said, your Minion Overlord is just tiers above her," she said.

It remains to be seen when Athena will be back in action and whether she will be featured in AEW soon.
