The on-screen rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre is as fierce as it gets. The two WWE Superstars have been going at each other for months, and every time they come face to face, they try to get the upper hand. This has culminated in an anticipated singles match, that is scheduled to take place at SummerSlam 2024. Furthermore, this bout will be refereed by former World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins.
Interestingly, amidst his rivalry with Punk, McIntyre has become a force to be reckoned with on X/Twitter. He regularly keeps attacking his SummerSlam rival online and this time around, he posted a picture of himself standing with current AEW TNT Champion Jack Perry. He also had the caption "cry me a river," alluding to Perry's mocking of Punk at All In. All Elite loyalists are well aware of the conflict between Punk and Perry. Moreover, when CM Punk was signed with the Jacksonville promotion, he and Perry had a backstage altercation at All In.
By posting a photo with the AEW TNT Champion, McIntyre was mocking his rival. Interestingly, NJPW star KENTA, reposted this photo, with a photo of himself edited on the top left corner. Although he chose not to explain the meaning behind it, pro wrestling fans are aware that the Japanese wrestler has real-life issues with Punk.
In the past, the 43-year-old has expressed several times that he is not too pleased, that Punk's finisher is the GTS, a move that is a staple in KENTA's arsenal.
CM Punk on his backstage altercation with AEW's Jack Perry
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani for MMA Hour, Punk opened up on his infamous backstage altercation with current TNT Champion, Jack Perry.
He revealed that the two wrestlers had a disagreement and the former AEW star slightly choked Perry. He then turned to Tony Khan and said that he was leaving the company.
"This place is a f**king joke. You're a clown. I quit. [He told Khan]' I went to my room, Joe and Jerry Lynn came and got me and we're like, 'Let's go out there and kill it.' I was too fired up. I'm fired up now. I'm probably going to regret talking about all this s***, but that's what happened," said Punk. [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
CM Punk was in AEW from August 2021 until his contract termination in September 2023. He made his WWE return at Survivor Series: WarGames in November 2023.
