MMA legend Josh Barnett recently opened up about wanting to see Goldberg and a top AEW star compete in tournaments for GCW's Bloodsport. The All Elite star in question is none other than Katsuyori Shibata.

The Bloodsport has been growing every year as top names like former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and WWE Superstar Shayna Bazler have competed in the GCW Bloodsport recently. It seems like Josh Barnett is now looking to bring more notable talents to the company in the future.

Speaking to Tokyo Sports before last night's Bloodsport Bushido event, Josh Barnett reflected on potentially holding Bloodsport tournaments in Japan. The veteran further stated that he'd like to see Katsuyori Shibata and former Universal Champion Goldberg take part in the tournaments.

“First of all, Katsuyori Shibata. Then Bill Goldberg,” Josh Barnett said. “I would also like to see Shayna Baszler in the Japanese tournament, and I would also like to see New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Voltin Oleg.” [H/T: WrestleZone]

Goldberg wanted to face AEW Sting in his retirement match

The Icon Sting competed in his retirement match in March 2024 at the AEW Revolution PPV. However, WWE veteran Goldberg recently named Sting as the wrestler he'd like to face in his retirement match.

Sting and Goldberg were a part of WCW together and have wrestled a couple of matches against each other. The former Universal Champion could have faced The Icon once again if he took the chance on potentially signing with AEW. However, it likely will not happen as Sting has now retired. Here is what Goldberg said on the Busted Open podcast:

“Man, I’ll be honest with you. I have no idea. I haven’t even thought about it, not for two seconds. I was trying to shuffle it to where it was Sting. Over the past couple of years with his retirement, you know, but I didn’t want to take away from Sting and his whole deal. I have no business being anywhere near that because I don’t deserve to be. It’s all about him, and therefore he wasn’t an option because of that.”

Goldberg is currently a free agent. It will be interesting to see if he decides to sign with All Elite Wrestling as CEO Tony Khan has shown interest in signing the former WCW star in the past.
