WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam (RVD) recently addressed how he was supposedly unbooked by the Stamford-based promotion from appearing at next year's WrestleMania in Philadelphia.
RVD made his in-ring return to a major promotion back in August when he challenged Jack Perry for the FTW Championship. Despite his return match resulting in a loss, he returned a month and a half later to tag with Hook, which would be his first win in AEW.
While on a recent edition of his 1 of a Kind podcast, Rob Van Dam detailed his booking and unbooking. He revealed that he got a phone from "the big company" and was unbooked from a show in Philadelphia. He immediately got booked by another promotion for a Philly show as well. This may be assumed to be AEW. He took this as a series of events which were meant to happen.
"I got a phone call, I picked up because it was from the big company, and had a little talk, and got officially unbooked from Philly. About 30 minutes later, I got another message. Got officially rebooked in Philly from another company. So that was pretty good. In the meantime, I'm just reading letters. 'A. E.' It happened like when I got there and before I left, before I even had a chance to think about the first message, so that's just the universe doing what it does, which is pretty awesome," said RVD.
He then mentioned how he could not go into detail as this caused some issues.
The reason I don't want to put too much detail on that is because word got out when I said before that I was unbooked and it kind of worked against me because then I had someone inside working on trying to do some damage repair and then I got people on Twitter saying, 'Let's pass this around, man. We need RVD rebooked,' and I was trying not to give that much attention to it because I had someone working on it. Either way, different dates, same town. The one is becoming more and more valuable than the other one to me each time anyway." [H/T Fightful]
Rob Van Dam comments on teaming up with FTW Champion Hook
On the same podcast, Rob Van Dam talked about his upcoming appearance on Dynamite this week. He will be teaming up with FTW Champion Hook again, which the Hall of Famer looked forward to.
He also mentioned that he was looking forward to meeting up with another former ECW star, Hook's father, Taz, should he be in attendance.
"I didn't know until I saw the flyer that I would be teeming with HOOK again. So that's awesome. I know that people have really wanted to see that and they enjoyed tag team, as did I, set-up last time. Hopefully, Daddy will be there this time, too, and I'll be able to see Taz again. Maybe Taz can give me some pointers," RVD said. [H/T Fightful]
This Wednesday, Rob Van Dam makes another appearance in AEW, and it will be interesting to see whether this will be another brief appearance or whether the high-flyer could be in store for more.
