Tony Schiavone was missing from this week's AEW Dynamite. ROH lead announcer Ian Riccaboni joined Excalibur and Nigel McGuinness to fill his place on the announce table this Wednesday.

At Wrestle Dynasty, New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s English commentator Chris Charlton insulted Tony Khan and AEW during Kenny Omega's match against Gabe Kidd. In response to his comments, Schiavone threw a jab at Charlton on X (fka Twitter) but later deleted his post due to the sensitivity of the situation.

Following Dynamite this week, many people speculated that Tony Schiavone's dig at Charlton created a problem for him, leading him to get removed from Dynamite. However, speaking on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer clarified that Schiavone's absence has nothing to do with him taking a shot at Charlton. He was absent from Dynamite due to a family situation:

“He wasn’t on the show tonight and it’s nothing big or anything like that. When he wasn’t there I started getting all these people going like, ‘Oh my god did he get suspended for that text?’ but it was just a family situation. He’s fine, he’ll be back. I presume on Saturday. It’s not anything to be alarmed over. It was just a family situation, he missed one show,” said Meltzer. [From 12:43 to 13:06]

NJPW decided not to fire Chris Charlton for his negative remarks about AEW and Tony Khan

Dave Meltzer recently revealed that NJPW has decided not to fire Chris Charlton after his controversial comments about AEW and Tony Khan. But both NJPW and AEW were unhappy with the situation.

"I know there's a lot of people in wrestling who–within wrestling said like if they were making the call, he would be fired... I don't think either [Kidani or Tony Khan] is happy that people in both companies have taken sides and made this issue very big, and I don't think they want that," said Meltzer.

Maltzer continued that Charlton was lucky enough to get almost unscathed from this situation as he could've easily gotten fired. However, he was not fortunate enough to avoid the situation completely as he was handed a two-month suspension as a repercussion of his actions.
