Scott Steiner wrestled for TNA, WCW, WWE, and several other companies during his legendary career. In an exclusive interview, the 2022 WWE Hall of Famer gave his take on one thing AEW can improve.
Since 2019, AEW has provided wrestling fans with a viable alternative to WWE. Tony Khan, the promotion's President and creative figurehead, often focuses on the in-ring aspect of pro wrestling over dramatic storyline developments.
Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling's Senior Editor Bill Apter, Steiner stressed the importance of telling compelling stories:
"I mean, I try to watch some stuff sometimes. I don't have a whole lot of time. It's a great place [AEW] for the guys to work. Competition is always good for the business, but there's no doubt that WWE is hot right now. They got the fan interest, so that's what's most important. The thing is, you just can't have matches. Nobody gives a s**t if they're just matches. With no storylines, it's like throwing two guys together. Has it ever worked, Bill? No, never!" [2:24-3:10]

Scott Steiner on his wrestling style compared to today's talents
It is well known that Scott Steiner and his brother Rick were two of the hardest-hitting wrestlers of their generation. Several modern-day competitors also have a no-nonsense in-ring approach, most notably Bryan Danielson in AEW and Gunther in WWE.
Steiner revealed that his physical style came from how he was trained as a rookie wrestler:
"Our stuff looked legit. When I first came in, a lot of those suplexes weren't around before we came in. I brought it from training at Michigan, training with my assistant coach, who was an Olympic Champion, so a lot of those Olympic throws I incorporated into professional wrestling." [3:48–4:08]
Steiner won the Tag Team Title with Rick twice in WWE and seven times in WCW. He also captured several singles titles, including the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
