The Standard of Excellence is a former WWE Superstar who had an up-and-down tenure in the company, but he's been presented as a huge star in the Jacksonville-based promotion. He was introduced as MVP's business associate a few weeks ago.
Last week, Shelton Benjamin took on Lio Rush in his debut AEW match. He showed extreme dominance during the bout and emerged victorious in his first match. He was later challenged by the former TNT Champ for tonight's Dynamite. The first half of the contest was largely dominated by Shelton.

After being decimated, Sammy tried to gain some momentum before the climax of the contest. However, the Spanish God didn't last long in front of the unleashed beast as the latter pinned him after a one-sided match.
This was Benjamin's second victory, and the star has yet to be defeated in AEW. He has picked up huge momentum ahead of his match against Swerve Strickland at Fright Night Dynamite next week.
