Sting recently returned at a major AEW event to make a bold prediction. He also dropped a massive tease about his future.
Stinger is an icon in the world of professional wrestling. He made a name for himself in WCW before making waves in other promotions. Over the years, The Icon worked for top companies like TNA Wrestling and WWE before settling down in AEW, where he arguably had one of the best runs of his career.
The Vigilante remained undefeated during his stint with the Tony Khan-led company and was known for his tag team with Darby Allin. He retired earlier this year as one-half of the World Tag Team Champions along with Allin. Following his in-ring retirement, The Icon returned at All In 2024 to save his longtime ally from being set on fire by Jack Perry and The Elite.
AEW recently held its Countdown to On Sale event for AEW All In 2025 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Sting made a surprise appearance and revealed that he is still signed with All Elite Wrestling despite retiring from active competition. The Icon lives nearby in North Texas, and he teased future appearances for the promotion:
“I signed a multi-year deal with AEW, obviously not to wrestle anymore, but it’s like a licensing deal, a legends deal if you want to call it that. So I’ll do appearances with them on and off, depending on what they want and all,” Sting shared.
AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that Sting will never wrestle again
Unlike most wrestlers, Sting left the industry on the highest note possible. At the end of his successful tenure in All Elite Wrestling, he finally got the dream farewell he deserved. However, after his return at All In this year, rumors started circulating about The Icon's future in the business.
There were also talks that the WWE Hall of Famer could soon make his return to the ring. However, those rumors were debunked by Tony Khan.
Speaking on the post-Full Gear media scrum, Tony Khan reflected on The Icon's legendary run in All Elite Wrestling and said he left on a high. He also confirmed that the wrestling legend would never step back into the ring for a match.
"In wrestling, I do think and in my whole life, two greatest nights easily could be Sting's retirement in Greensboro being there and all those great moments paying off and three years of Sting in AEW culminating back where it started. Setting every business record in Greensboro and having Sting do it with Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat by his side it was really cool (...) Sting is never gonna comeback and wrestle (...) It ended on the highest note possible." [From 01:45:44 to 01:47:33]
It will be interesting to see whether Sting will show up at All In 2025.
