After an up-and-down 2023, Sammy Guevara seems to be gaining momentum in AEW. Ahead of tonight's episode of Collision and Battle of the Belts special, Sammy's wife, Tay Melo, posted a message of support on social media.
Tay Melo is also an AEW talent but has been off television for over a year due to her pregnancy. Tay and Sammy welcomed their first child, Luna, in November 2023. Sammy Guevara returned to action shortly after and recently reunited with Chris Jericho.
Guevara and Jericho are set to battle AEW World Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill in a Street Fight for the titles at tonight's Battle of the Belts event. Ahead of the show, Tay Melo retweeted a fan's clips of her hardcore matches in AEW and sent a message of support to her husband:
"And tonight @sammyguevara will be in a street fight 😍 let’s goooo husband," wrote Melo.

Tay Melo recently defended Sammy Guevara from fan backlash
In 2016, Sammy Guevara made comments about Mercedes Mone (then known as Sasha Banks) that many fans found disgusting. The 30-year-old has since apologized and completed company-mandated sensitivity training related to the incident.
However, some fans still like to remind The Spanish God and his wife about what was said back then. Tay Melo recently took to X to respond to the criticism directed at her husband, claiming that he is not that person anymore:
"I get really upset when I see people hating on him or judging him for a mistake he did in 2016 ( I lived in Brazil & didn't even speak English back then). I strongly disagree with his past mistakes but I also believe people pay for it, learn and grow. I didn’t meet the 2016 Sammy, I met a human that I know would not make the same mistakes. The Sammy I met is a spectacular man," Tay Melo wrote.
Despite the criticism, Sammy Guevara could be primed for a big 2024 as he and Chris Jericho chase the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Whether the young star will manage to get his hands on the gold remains to be seen.
