AEW are currently in talks with WBD over a media rights deal. However, a former WCW Champion has made a bleak prediction for the company's future.
All Elite Wrestling has been partnered with Warner Brothers Discovery since its inception to broadcast its product on TBS and TNT. While the company got off to a good start and gained a lot of traction, the same can't be said about the promotion's performance in recent weeks and months.
The Jacksonville-based promotion has seen a massive drop in viewership and ratings recently. The company is also struggling to sell tickets for its weekly shows and is now coming to the end of its current deal with WBD and has yet to sign a new one. Both parties have remained silent on the status of the deal which has been a cause for concern for fans.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, former WCW Champion Vince Russo mentioned that WBD could be waiting this deal out so that they can offer All Elite Wrestling a lowball offer.
"They haven't signed with anybody else bro so that may mean that there may not be any serious bidders and let's face it bro. If potential partners are comparing AEW numbers to WWE numbers, AEW doesn't stand a chance bro. They are getting killed by the WWE. I think Warner Brothers Discovery knows all of that bro, and I think they are waiting this thing out because they know Tony's got nowhere else to go and Tony is gonna wind up taking what they give him." AEW President Tony Khan gave a positive update about the company's future
In recent weeks, many people have commented on the possibility of All Elite Wrestling signing a new deal with WBD. However, Tony Khan mostly remained silent on the issue until recently.
Tony did an interview with Q101 where he spoke about his promotion's deal with WBD. He said that this is one of the most important deals they'll ever make.
“Right now is the most important time ever in AEW. We're on the verge of the most important deal we'll ever make. I think now, over five years, it's really been building to this point where AEW's going to jump into the media rights and be a very profitable, successful company.”
It will be interesting to see if Tony Khan will succeed in signing a major deal with Warner Brothers Discovery.
