Tony Khan recently addressed WWE running a live event during AEW's Worlds End pay-per-view event. Khan is the President and head booker of All Elite Wrestling.
AEW Worlds End PPV went head-to-head with a WWE live event running from Orlando, Florida as well. Worlds End PPV aired from Addition Financial Arena whereas WWE's Holiday Tour house show took place at Kia Center 20 minutes away from Worlds End. The live event featured massive superstars like Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Damian Priest, and more.
During the post-Worlds End PPV press conference, Tony Khan was asked about going head-to-head with the WWE live event. The All Elite honcho was happy that Orlando got to witness two pro wrestling events on the same night. He further appreciated fans' support for Worlds End and how they showed high energy through the entire PPV.
"It’s great for the city of Orlando, with two major pro wrestling events happening on the same night. There were thousands and thousands of fans at both shows. We had a capacity crowd here. It was so great being here at the UCF. This arena has been a tremendous host, and for us and the community, it was great to have such an amazing support from the fans."
He continued further:
"It shows how strong worldwide pro wrestling, particularly here in the United States, is to have in one major American city with two promotions running head-to-head on the same night, to have two great crowds. I know our fans here were awesome, and it was a great show tonight, thanks to the Orlando fans who supported it all night. They were tremendous." [54:23-55:14]
AEW Continental Classic tournament is meaningless according to Konnan
AEW introduced the Continental Classic tournament last year and it was well received by the fans. The promotion also ran the tournament this year which culminated with Kazuchika Okada winning it at last night's Worlds End PPV.
However, wrestling veteran Konnan had a controversial take on the tournament. In a recent edition of his Keepin' It 100 podcast, Konnan claimed that the Continental Classic tournament and Continental Championship were meaningless.
"It's just another meaningless belt nobody cares about, or tournament in a place that's full of belts and tournaments. I agree 100 percent with what you said," he said. [1:29 - 1:46]
Fans will have to wait and see what exciting matchups next year's Continental Classic brings for the passionate followers.
