AEW prides itself on being a place where dream matches are made. However, even among top stars who have been with the company since its founding, there are still several matchups fans have never gotten to see. Such is the case with 'Hangman' Adam Page and Darby Allin, but that's about to change.
Hangman Page and Allin both recently made their returns to the ring. Darby has been hampered by various injuries and setbacks since Sting's retirement in March but is now riding high ahead of All In next month. Hangman, meanwhile, spent several months stewing at home after losing his feud with Swerve Strickland.
The two have been among AEW's most popular stars since 2019 but have never met in a singles match on television. They clashed in 2022's Royal Rampage Battle Royal and in last week's Blood & Guts Match, but before that, they'd only ever locked up in a single non-televised match on the Jericho Cruise back in 2020.
AEW fans have been wanting to see Hangman mix it up with Darby Allin for a long time, and they're finally getting their wish on this week's Dynamite. Tony Khan took to X (fka Twitter) today to announce that the two will square off this Wednesday:
"After their sides went to war last Wednesday in Blood And Guts, Hangman Adam Page fights Darby Allin for the first time ever on TBS this Wednesday!" wrote Khan.
Hangman Page vs. Darby Allin could have interesting implications for the AEW World Championship
Darby Allin won the Royal Rampage this past week, granting him a shot at the AEW World Championship at Dynamite: Grand Slam in September. But if Swerve Strickland is still the champion at that time, 'Hangman' Adam Page may try to knock Darby out of the way.
Hangman is still obsessed with Strickland's downfall, to the point that he agreed to join last week's brutal Blood & Guts match only after the World Champion had announced his entry in the opposing team.
Page has become a loose cannon in All Elite Wrestling, and he's made it clear that he will destroy whoever stands between him and his archnemesis. He demonstrated his resolve against Jeff Jarrett in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament but ended up losing his shot at Swerve to Bryan Danielson in the final.
It's unclear how the match between Hangman and Darby will go this Wednesday, but Allin could end up being a stepping stone for Page to get back at Swerve. Fans will have to tune into this week's Dynamite to see the drama unfold.
