A WCW veteran recently discussed AEW President Tony Khan's future as an on-screen character. He feels Khan can improve his gimmick by making a major change.
Tony Khan was shockingly attacked by Jack Perry and The Young Bucks on an episode of Dynamite following Dynasty 2024. Before the assault, Khan showed up on the company's programming only to make significant announcements. While the AEW President's entry into The Elite's storyline created much buzz, some fans felt that his character wasn't entertaining.
On an episode of Keepin' It 100, Disco Inferno was recently asked whether Khan should be a regular character on AEW TV. In response, the WCW veteran pointed out how the 41-year-old seemingly behaved differently at media scrums and on live television.
"Here's the weirdest thing about Tony Khan as a character, is when he does those PSAs or public service announcements on the show, he looks like he's in a hostage situation, it does right? And every time he's been on TV, he's performed very poorly, he doesn't know what he's doing. However, he's very entertaining in these media scrums, like he is a different guy in the media and out there on TV."
Inferno urged Khan to exhibit the same energy on TV as he displayed at press conferences.
"If he can just like (...) and all the media scrums are in front of the camera. Like if he could just take that same energy he has with the media scrums and go on TV with the comfort level that he has in the media scrums, he could be a better character." [1:03 - 1:49]

Tony Khan featured in the Anarchy in the Arena match
At the 2024 Double or Nothing pay-per-view, The Elite competed against Team AEW, comprising FTR, Bryan Danielson, and Darby Allin, in an Anarchy in the Arena match. It was a chaotic bout filled with several high-risk spots.
In one of the sequences, Jack Perry dragged Tony Khan onto the stage. Nonetheless, Allin set Perry on fire with a flamethrower to rescue his boss in one of the most discussed moments of the show.
Despite Team AEW's valiant efforts, The Elite managed to win the match and continue its dominant run in the company. It remains to be seen what's next in this intriguing storyline.
