Tony Khan has dropped a bombshell announcement regarding an AEW show. This is something that will make the fans very sad and, at the same time, excited for what lies ahead.
For a long time, there were rumors going around that AEW Rampage was going to come to an end. Rampage is a weekly pre-taped show that airs on Friday nights to supplement Wednesday's live Dynamite and Saturday Night Collision. It lasted for one hour every week, and it was not often that the company's big stars would show up.
Now, Tony Khan has announced that Rampage will be off "for the foreseeable future." He made that announcement on the December 22 holiday taping of AEW Dynamite. The last Rampage show will be telecast on December 27th, which is this coming Friday.
All Elite Wrestling recently landed a huge contract with Warner Bros. Discovery for Dynamite, Collision and the promotion's pay-per-view events, but Rampage was not included. It will be interesting to see if there will be a new show that will replace Rampage and, if so, whether or not it will be on the same schedule. 2025 is going to be an interesting year for AEW fans.
Vince Russo reveals what AEW stars have told him about Tony Khan
AEW president Tony Khan comes off as a happy-go-lucky sort of person. That is made very evident when he talks to the press and also when he talks with his company's talent.
Vince Russo, who made his name as the head writer for WWE and WCW back in the day, has revealed what some AEW stars have told him in private about their boss. He was speaking on Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Outlaws podcast when he said:
"I've heard from guys on top of AEW where, you know, with Tony [Khan], it's basically just go out there and do whatever you want. You gotta have some kind of control and, you know, in order to put out the type of product that you want. So you really got to find that happy medium."
Khan has always touted the amount of freedom his promotion's wrestlers have to collaborate and pitch ideas, and it's even said that top stars like Chris Jericho sometimes book their own creative angles. Whether this will change in the future remains to be seen.
