Tony Khan pulled Ricky Starks from an upcoming show a few days ago. The absent AEW star was slated to make appearances for Game Changer Wrestling.

The Absolute star made a surprise appearance at GCW Dream On, which led to a match-up between him and Matt Cardona at the Highest in the Room 3 event. But after GCW star Effy made some negative comments about Khan and his father, the AEW President forbade Starks from performing in GCW.

While speaking on Game Changer Weekly, Effy, who was apparently responsible for Starks' withdrawal from the GCW event, commented on Tony Khan's decision. He accused the AEW CEO of being 'cunning' for taking such a step.

"When I’m a reason for you to pull Ricky Starks from shows, therefore EFFY’s words are very important. They’re so cunning, they’re so jarring, and I just don’t understand, with some of the things Tony Khan has personally said about other people, that he would have the thin skin that is required for this to be what sets him off," he said.

Ricky Starks announced for a high-profile debut match outside AEW

Ricky Starks is set to make his debut in an independent promotion. A few days ago, House of Glory shared a post on X (fka Twitter) announcing Starks' debut match against former AEW star Mike Santana at the main event of Watch The Throne on January 17, 2025, in Chicago.

"C H I C A G O In an absolute blockbuster main event, HOG World Heavyweight Champion @Santana_Proud will defend his title against the debuting “Absolute” @starkmanjones, Friday, January 17th in Chicago!!!"

The 34-year-old star is only around a month away from returning to the ring. Sadly, he's still missing from AEW television. There is no update on when the fans might see him back in the Jacksonville-based promotion. For those who don't know, he's still under contract with Tony Khan's company.
