Tony Khan has made a bold claim about Sting’s retirement match in AEW and it is sure to get the attention of some people. But it should not come as a surprise to most fans.
Sting retired at the top, as a tag team champion after he and Darby Allin successfully defended their titles against The Young Bucks at Revolution in February. The whole build up to the match had a lot of fanfare around it. Khan has now gone on record to call it the greatest sendoff in pro wrestling.
He was speaking to Bleacher Report’s Chris Mueller when he said:
“Sting’s final match, Sting and Darby vs. The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution was, in my opinion, the greatest sendoff ever in pro wrestling. And Sting deserves that because he’s one of the greatest wrestlers ever, and we were very lucky to have him in AEW.” [H/T - Bleacher Report]

Tony Khan says Sting was unhappy in WWE
In the same interview, Tony Khan also said that Sting was apparently not happy in WWE and that he was looking to do something very different after that.
"When he had previously competed in WWE, I don't think he had a great experience with WWE. He was looking to do something very different. When I first talked to Sting, he was interested in having a comeback, but I don't think Steve [Borden] ever imagined it would lead to a three-year run in wrestling that would become legendary," Tony Khan said.
He definitely did have a impressive run and exceeded fans' expectations at that. Despite being quite old when compared to his colleagues, Sting defied expectations each time he took to the ring and performed moves that were simply out of this world.
Tony will be very grateful that he got to sign Sting when he did and also that he upped his game to a level that nobody thought was possible after his Hall of Fame induction.
