Tony Khan has just made a last-minute announcement before AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen goes on the air. He has just announced a match featuring a certain former World Champion with major title implications.

Swerve Strickland enjoyed a highly acclaimed run with the company's World Championship in 2024. However, he dropped his title to Bryan Danielson at All In. Since then, he has bounced between storylines. In the last four pay-per-views of the year, he lost to 'Hangman' Adam Page and Bobby Lashley and was not booked for the other two.

On X/Twitter, Tony Khan announced that a three-way match will take place tonight for the number one spot in the Casino Gauntlet match happening next week. This will feature Swerve, Roderick Strong, and Jay White.

"TONIGHT, January 1, 2025 Asheville, NC Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite 8pm ET/7pm CT on TBS + MAX Winner Gets #1 Spot Next Wednesday in Casino Gauntlet Match 3 Way Match @swerveconfident vs @roderickstrong vs @JayWhiteNZ Simulcast live on BOTH @TBSNetwork + @SportsOnMax TONIGHT!" TK announced.

Earlier today, Khan announced that next week's match will decide who Jon Moxley's challenger will be at AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage on January 15th. The last match of this sort took place at All In 2024, with Christian Cage capturing a future title shot.
