Tony Khan is the CEO and President of AEW. The 42-year-old recently revealed details about the promotion's ownership structure in light of recent rumors that started circulating on the subject.
All Elite Wrestling recently hosted the fifth-anniversary episode of Dynamite. Around the same time, it was revealed that the promotion had signed a new and reportedly profitable media rights deal with Warner Brothers Discovery. Interestingly, rumors started making the rounds sometime earlier that the New York City-based media conglomerate owned an unknown percentage of AEW, albeit not a significantly large share.
During the media call for AEW's upcoming pay-per-view WrestleDream 2024, Tony Khan clarified that he owned the vast majority of All Elite Wrestling shares and revealed that he also held 100% voting shares in the company.
"I will not get into our ownership structure but I will say that I have 100% of the voting stock in this company and have since the beginning, and hold the vast majority of shares...As the sole voting owner and the vast majority shareholder of the company, I think that speaks volumes and I'm the controlling owner with 100% voting control of the business," Khan said. Vince Russo's critique of how Tony Khan utilizes the AEW roster
Despite the undeniable success All Elite Wrestling has achieved since being established in 2019, the promotion continues to experience issues with ticket sales and television viewership figures. Furthermore, owing to its currently oversaturated roster, a number of talents are not being properly utilized, leading to creative frustration and even release requests.
On a recent edition of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, Vince Russo criticized Tony Khan for hiring new talents before booking and developing pre-existing stars, which he claimed contributed to "unhappiness" among wrestlers from AEW, citing the example of Ricky Starks.
"What does he [Tony Khan] do? This roster grows and grows. When he doesn't know what to do with [Ricky] Starks anymore, he brings in another guy. When he doesn't know what to do, he brings in another guy. That's why they're unhappy bro. Just get a 'Who's on the team?' [holds up a list of names] and develop that team!" [From 08:56 onwards]
With his promotion's broadcasting future now seemingly secure for several years, it remains to be seen how Tony Khan continues to book his stars on All Elite Wrestling programming.
