Tony Khan contacted an AEW star after WWE made a huge announcement involving Cody Rhodes' wrestling school. The star being discussed is QT Marshall.
A few days earlier, WWE announced the arrival of WWE ID, which means the global sports entertainment juggernaut would sign young indie talents under its umbrella. Before announcing several names, WWE announced the names of several independent promotions and wrestling schools from which the talent would be scouted. This included Cody Rhodes' Nightmare Factory.
The American Nightmare and AEW star QT Marshall operate the Nightmare Factory. Despite the latter being part of the training program, he wasn't aware of the Stamford-based promotion's move to add his school to WWE ID.
While speaking with Walkway to Fight Club, Marshall claimed that Tony Khan called him following the announcement and asked for details. The 39-year-old star revealed that Cody Rhodes had just given him a hint about the WWE situation and didn't know the full story.
"Tony [Khan] called me the day it was announced about other stuff and he's like, 'Hey I just got to bring this up because I'm getting a lot of questions ... I said, 'Hey I'll be honest with you Tony, I didn't really know about this.' Cody had spoken to me about potentially signing over the intellectual properties and stuff. And he said that he was doing something related to WWE, but like, a sworn to secrecy kinda thing," he said. [H/T - Wrestling Inc.]
QT Marshall reveals his conversation with Cody Rhodes; confirms he isn't part of WWE ID
Cody Rhodes and QT Marshall ran the Nightmare Factory wrestling school for a long time. Now that it is involved with WWE and QT is All Elite, it may be difficult for him to get entangled with the program.
While speaking on The TakeDown of SI, the former WWE star revealed he spoke to Cody and stated that he might not be a part of WWE ID due to a 'conflict of interest' with AEW.
"Maybe I could run a night class in there if we lose the building here, if we sell the building and stuff. But obviously, with AEW and the conflict of interest, I'm probably not going to be a part of this thing," he said.
It will be interesting to see if WWE brings in QT Marshall in the future.
