AEW President Tony Khan shared his thoughts on how WWE may have inadvertently helped his company secure a major potential deal. Khan also reflected on the ratings of All Elite Wrestling's weekly programs.
A recent episode of AEW Dynamite garnered the lowest ratings in the show's history, as it averaged 502,000 viewers. WWE NXT did better numbers than All Elite Wrestling's flagship weekly program in the said week, sparking a huge debate in the pro wrestling world.
In a chat with Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Tony Khan admitted how WWE getting ahead of All Elite Wrestling in terms of securing a new media deal could really help his promotion.
“We need to keep doing what we’re doing because the numbers we have are numbers people in TV would kill to have. I really need to focus on doing good shows for AEW and not about what the competition [WWE] is doing, and I think in this case our competition going out ahead of us and getting good media rights deals was a positive for us, and actually good for us because we have very good historical comps, and these comps are very favorable for us. So that’s one thing. I’ve done a ton of market research and retain top analysts and data scientists and looking at this stuff.” [H/T: WOR]
AEW's media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery is set to conclude soon. However, Khan seems optimistic about entering into a new lucrative agreement with the media conglomerate. Meanwhile, WWE RAW is set to move to Netflix next year as part of a massive partnership.
Tony Khan recently clapped back at criticism of AEW's TV ratings
AEW President Tony Khan recently celebrated the first anniversary of Collision, expressing his happiness about the show's success on social media.
A fan on X/Twitter took a shot at the ratings the program garnered in the past year. Reacting to the troll, Khan revealed that Collision's first-anniversary episode beat UFC head-to-head.
"Yes Derek, speaking of one year and shocking, I was also thrilled when the one year anniversary Saturday Night #AEWCollision beat UFC head-to-head, seven days ago. What a great way to celebrate one year of @AEW on Saturday Nights on TNT!"
Moreover, the ratings for Dynamite this past week saw much improvement from last week's abysmal numbers.
