AEW CEO Tony Khan has announced a massive tag team bout for the New Year's edition of Dynamite this week. The match will feature two former WWE Superstars - Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin- who will take on the Jacksonville-based company's foremost homegrown tag team, The Acclaimed.
The Hurt Syndicate clarified that it had been looking to expand its ranks since arriving at All Elite Wrestling a few months ago. Among the talent the faction reached out to with business cards were Max Caster and Anthony Bowens. While the latter refused to entertain the offer, his partner held on to the card, seemingly sowing seeds of dissension between the former AEW World Tag Team Champions.
Caster has been leaning towards a potential heel turn of late, and many believe that The Acclaimed may soon go their separate ways following Platinum Max accidentally costing Bowens his singles match against ROH World Champion Chris Jericho on Rampage: New Year's Smash.
Now, one day ahead of this week's AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen 2025, Tony Khan has taken to X/Twitter to announce that The Acclaimed will face The Hurt Syndicate's Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin on New Year's Day.
A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.
"This Wed, January 1 Asheville, NC Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite 8pm ET/7pm CT on TBS + MAX Fight For The Fallen @fightbobby/@Sheltyb803 vs @PlatinumMax/@Bowens_Official Hurt Syndicate vs The Acclaimed on New Year's Day Simulcast on BOTH @TBSNetwork + @StreamOnMax THIS WEDNESDAY!" wrote Tony Khan.
This will be the first time Lashley and Benjamin—former WWE and Intercontinental Champions, respectively—will compete as a tag team in All Elite Wrestling.
What else is in store for AEW Dynamite this week?
All Elite Wrestling will enter 2025 with Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen, which will kick off its new deal with Warner Bros. Discovery and be simulcast on TBS and MAX.
To that end, several star-studded matches have been announced for the episode besides the tag bout mentioned above, pitting FTR and the returning Adam Copeland against Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta of The Death Riders, and House of Black member Julia Hart against former Women's World Champion Jamie Hayter.
Also on AEW Dynamite, Orange Cassidy will go one-on-one with Hangman Adam Page in a never-before-seen singles clash. Furthermore, WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett is set to make a statement supposedly regarding the future of his career this Wednesday.
