Tony Schiavone does not think a current WWE announcer will be in the same class as Excalibur. This will send some shockwaves through the industry.
The name in question is Joe Tessitore. He made his WWE debut on the September 2 edition of Monday Night RAW. There was a lot of fanfare, as Tessitore is a renowned name in College Football.
Tony Schiavone spoke out about Joe and wished him all the best in the future. He also took a cheeky dig at the end and said he won't be as good as Excalibur. He was speaking on his What Happened When podcast when he said:
"I'm sure he [Joe Tessitore] will do well. And I'm sure Nick Khan is paying him a big chunk of money. I'm sure he is gonna end up being one of the best, I would hope, play-by-play men in wrestling. I don't think he'll be in the class of Excalibur, but then again, right now, in this day and age, no-one is. He's amazing." [H/T WrestleTalk TV]
Eric Bischoff believes Tony Schiavone will go into WWE Hall of Fame
Eric Bischoff believes Tony Schiavone will go into the WWE Hall of Fame. The AEW commentator worked with WWE for one year, from 1989 to 1990, before moving to WCW.
Bischoff said Schiavone should have been inducted into the Hall of Fame by now but has said that despite working for AEW, he will one day get that induction. Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast when he said:
“With respect to everything you just said about Tony, really, God, if you think about it, he should have been in, now, he’s been in AEW for five years now. So that kind of takes him out of play. But he would absolutely think that at some point, Tony would get that WWE Hall of Fame now,” he said.
It will be interesting to see if that will take place, given that he had such a brief run in WWE.
