MJF could soon lock horns with a top champion in AEW, as the latter recently teased a blockbuster title feud. The star being discussed here is World Champion Swerve Strickland.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman returned to AEW at Double or Nothing after being away for almost five months. Before Sunday's event, he was seen at Worlds End 2023, where he lost his World Championship to Samoa Joe. Swerve Strickland later dethroned The Samoan Submission Machine at Dynasty.

The Devil never got his title rematch as he went on hiatus following his loss at the Worlds End pay-per-view. Now that he is back in AEW, he might want a shot at Strickland's World Championship.

At the post-Double or Nothing media scrum, the former WWE star hinted at locking horns with Friedman.

"It's a possibility, and that's the beauty of this whole company. Everything's possible. I know he has unfinished business with Undisputed Kingdom, Adam Cole (...) he'd probably want to finish up some things," said Strickland.

The AEW World Champion also implied that he drove the company to new heights of success during The Devil's absence.

"While you were gone, I was building. I was building and I was making this place a fortress. You can come in but — I'm not saying you can't even challenge for the World Championship, but you've got work to do. Just like I had work to do. It's up to Maxwell Jacob to figure out where he fits in this [shift] right now because I'm not going to make it easy." [H/T: WrestlingNews]

What's next for MJF in AEW?

MJF attacked his former tag team partner, Adam Cole, upon his return at Double or Nothing 2024. Following the show, fans have been wondering what's next for the 28-year-old in AEW.

Fightful Select recently reported about AEW's potential plans for Friedman. The news outlet hinted that the Tony Khan-led creative team had been planning The Devil's comeback for quite some time now. However, they seemingly had no idea that he had undergone shoulder surgery.

Khan had seemingly planned a match between MJF and Adam Cole. However, it was nixed after the former AEW World Champion went on hiatus and Cole sustained an injury. Nevertheless, MJF is scheduled to start a prominent feud in the promotion soon.
