AEW has signed many free agents this year, and recently, a new All Elite signee asked for Tony Khan to sign former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley. The All Mighty left the Stamford-based company earlier this year and recently talked about his decision to leave the global juggernaut.
Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley go way back to their time together in The Hurt Business, where they dominated RAW for several months during the pandemic. After the disbandment of the group, Shelton's career took a bit of a detour. Over the years, there have been calls from fans for the stable to reunite, but that never happened. Now, with three out of the four men no longer part of WWE, fans seem optimistic about the chances of this happening.
The Gold Standard and MVP debuted recently on All Elite Wrestling TV as The Hurt Syndicate. Additionally, there have been reports of Bobby Lashley signing with the Jacksonville-based promotion, but he has yet to make an appearance. During a recent interview on the Gabby AF podcast, Shelton Benjamin highlighted how beneficial it would be for All Elite Wrestling if Lashley joined the promotion.
"If Bobby were to come… most people were fans of The Hurt Business; myself, MVP, Bobby, and Cedric [Alexander]," he said. "The prospect of Bobby coming to AEW, that’s huge, that’s a win for AEW. Aside from myself, you have one of the most phenomenal athletes you could ever get. A two-time WWE World Champion. It only brings a bigger audience to AEW, so it’s a plus. When that will happen, I’m not sure. Bobby has his own plans and when/if they coincide with ours is yet to be determined. Him coming to AEW can only help everybody involved. It’ll be a lot of fun." Shelton Benjamin explains why he joined AEW after leaving WWE
When Shelton Benjamin was released from WWE, fans were waiting to see his debut in All Elite Wrestling. It finally happened on the fifth-anniversary episode of Dynamite. He aligned himself with MVP, meaning that they were going to revive The Hurt Business in Tony Khan's promotion.
During a recent interview on the Gabby AF podcast, Shelton Benjamin mentioned that he had many offers on the table after leaving WWE, but he chose to sign with Tony Khan's promotion because it has the biggest audience outside of Titanland.
"I did have a few offers. MLW was very interested. I was doing a lot of international things and exploring other options, in and out of pro wrestling. Acting is one of them... It basically boiled down to, I like to put myself in the best possible position to succeed. When the door closed at WWE, I really thought long and hard about where I wanted to go... I want the biggest possible audience. Outside of WWE, there is nowhere bigger than AEW. I don’t have as much time as lot of guys, as far as in-ring. Not that I’m going to retire anytime soon, but for the time I have left, I want to reach the biggest possible audience. What better place than AEW? There is no better place.” [H/T Ringside News]
It will be interesting to see whether Bobby Lashley joins MVP and Shelton Benjamin in All Elite Wrestling.
