Adam Cole has been absent from AEW television for months. Cole last appeared at Double or Nothing in May 2024, where he was confronted by a returning MJF. Recently, Friedman claimed the former NXT star is never returning to wrestling again.
MJF and Adam Cole were involved in an entertaining storyline last year that saw them become best friends before they eventually became the ROH Tag Team Champions. However, that friendship came to an end at AEW Worlds End when Cole betrayed the Salt of the Earth.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman went on a hiatus following the pay-per-view to heal from his injuries before returning at AEW Double or Nothing 2024. The former AEW World Champion attacked Cole and since then, the latter has been absent from television. Speaking on the Casual Conversations podcast, MJF confidently stated that Cole was never coming back to wrestling after claiming to have "killed him."
"I mean isn't he dead? Didn't I kill him? I thought I killed him. I broke his n**s and then I broke his spine. I mean it was pretty straightforward. He's never coming back to wrestling and I think we can all agree bad guy! Not a nice guy!" [From 14:06 to 14:18]
Tony Khan confirms that Adam Cole will be back
Cole suffered a serious ankle injury last year which has kept him out of the ring for the past several months. While he has made sporadic appearances as part of the Undisputed Kingdom, the former NXT Champion has not been seen since Double or Nothing fuelling speculation about his future.
And while MJF may think that his former best friend is not coming back, Tony Khan confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that Cole is on the road to recovery and will be back but he just doesn't know when.
"I can't wait until Adam Cole can come back," Khan said. "I can't give you the exact time table, but he will be back. And I'm looking forward to it. It'll be great to have Adam Cole back in the ring. He is recovering, and I can't wait to have him back." [H/T: WrestlingInc]
It remains to be seen if the former WWE star and MJF will renew their rivalry after the former returns back to the ring.
