A top AEW star's in-ring return was announced outside the company. This return is taking place despite his ongoing injury.
Kota Ibushi is a legend in Japanese wrestling, making a name for himself due to his kickboxing ability. His aggression and passion in the ring are second to none making him one of the most entertaining stars. Hence, Tony Khan was quick to sign him to AEW.
However, it has been months since he made his last appearance on AEW television. Kota Ibushi recently announced that he was suffering from an ankle injury which is keeping him away from the ring. However, despite this ongoing injury, Ibushi took to social media to confirm that he is participating in a 5-minute exhibition match for GLEAT's 3rd anniversary:
"July 1, 2024 is the perfect date for our 20th anniversary and GLEAT's 3rd anniversary. No matter who I'll be playing with for these 5 minutes, I want to give it my all and give it my all, without skipping any time!!"

AEW star Kota Ibushi pleads with fans to wait a little bit more for his in-ring return
Kenny Omega, who is also on the shelf due to diverticulitis, is in an ongoing feud with his former best friends the Young Bucks. A couple of weeks ago, The Bucks and the rest of The Elite ambushed and attacked Omega.
Given how close Kota Ibushi and Omega are, a fan asked the former whether he would return soon and avenge his fallen friend. To this, Ibushi replied that he would return immediately if his doctor cleared him. He also asked fans to wait a little bit more:
"Of course, if my current doctor in Japan tells me that I can compete, I will report to AEW and return immediately. I'm now 85% alive. Please wait a little more," wrote Ibushi.

It looks like fans will get to see Ibushi in action for a bit which should make them happy even if it is for a few minutes.
