Swerve Strickland is the current AEW World Champion. The 13-year veteran is also a burgeoning hip-hop artist as a member of the Swerve City hip-hop group, performing as Swerve The Realest. Strickland has just reacted after a major announcement on an upcoming project.
The New Flavor and rapper Flash Garments are set for a big performance during AEW All In weekend this summer. Ahead of the gig, The Lucas Brothers and Mookie Thompson have just announced a new documentary on the "unexpected creative partnership" between the wrestler-turned-rapper and the artist that did his "Big Pressure" theme song.
A release date was not confirmed, but Deadline reports that the documentary will apparently pick up with Strickland being released from WWE while Garments was axed from Kanye West's crew. Swerve issued a statement on the project, declaring that he and Garments were meant to make wrestling and hip-hop history.
"Flash Garments and I were introduced to one another at very interesting times in our lives. We knew we were meant to make history with one another by collaborating hip hop and pro wrestling on a different level. The Lucas brothers captured it in the best light possible," Swerve Strickland said.
Garments said the "fusion documentary" on wrestling and hip-hop will be a premium and unique viewing experience. The Lucas Brothers, Kenny, and Keith, are lifelong wrestling and hip-hop fans who were instantly captivated by the "groundbreaking work" of Swerve and Flash in AEW.
The former WWE star issued a one-word response on X/Twitter today, which also serves as an early Oscar endorsement.
"'Oscar,'" Swerve Strickland wrote in response to the announcement.
All In 2023 saw Garments and DJ Whoo Kid perform while Strickland went to the ring for the Coffin Match, which saw him and Christian Cage come up short against Sting and Darby Allin.
Swerve Strickland set for major AEW World Championship defense
All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling will present the 2024 Forbidden Door pay-per-view on Sunday, June 30 at UBS Arena in Long Island, NY.
The Forbidden Door main event looks to be Swerve Strickland defending the AEW World Championship against Will Ospreay. The Aerial Assassin's International Championship will not be on the line.
This week's Dynamite will be the final show before next week's go-home episode. Strickland and Ospreay are scheduled to meet face-to-face in the ring on this Wednesday's show.
