Lio Rush is all set to be a prominent feature on AEW programming. The former NXT star had a successful outing on the previous episode of Rampage, and it looks like he might already be on the way to joining a tag team and creating a brand-new faction.
On Rampage, Lio faced Action Andretti in a qualifying bout for the AEW TNT Championship Ladder Match that will take place at Forbidden Door 2024. While the latter was unsuccessful in defeating Rush, a post-match interaction between the two wrestlers caught the fans' attention.
"Action Andretti even after losing shook hands with Lio Rush, and Darius Martin is also seemingly cool with him. We might be getting this Top Flight faction after all, folks," a post read.
Top Flight is a tag team comprising Dante and Darius Martin, but with Dante's injury, Darius has aligned with Action Andretti, who faced Rush at Rampage. After Andretti lost the match, Lio shook hands with the Sight to See looking on, raising hopes that El Arachno might be joining the team to from a new faction. Whether that happens or not, remains to be seen.
AEW has creative plans for Lio Rush
The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion returned to AEW programming after two years during a Battle Royal Match on Dynamite in May. Reports suggest AEW has some creative plans for the star.
Rush is 29 but has wrestled for several wrestling promotions, including WWE's NXT and NJPW. He has also dabbled in a music career. He was Bobby Lashley's manager in WWE from 2018 to 2019. While his in-ring capabilities are strong, fans are skeptical of getting behind him because the star has announced his retirement a handful of times.
With Lio Rush winning and losing matches in AEW, and his in-ring antics hinting at the start of a new faction, it remains to be seen if the audience is open to welcoming Rush and following his professional journey.
