A WWE Hall of Famer recently signed a new deal with Tony Khan's AEW. Retired wrestler Sting will continue his journey with the Jacksonville-based promotion, but not as a wrestler.
The Icon retired earlier this year and had his last match at Revolution. He teamed up with Darby Allin and successfully defended the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks. The veteran also appeared at All In in London in August.
Speaking in an interview with Kayfabe Friends, Sting revealed that he has signed a multi-year ''legends deal'' with AEW.
"I signed a multi-year deal with AEW; obviously not to wrestle anymore, but it’s like a licensing deal, a legends deal if you want to call it that. So I’ll do appearances with them on and off, depending on what they want and all. I’ve done real estate; I did real estate before I ever was a pro wrestler, so I’ve always loved real estate," he said.
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
Fans were excited to hear that the 65-year-old wrestling legend was still a part of Tony Khan's promotion. Some were expecting him to return to the Stamford-based promotion and make a cameo appearance in the Men's Royal Rumble Match, while others were hopeful he would get back in the ring soon.
"He signed the magic deal," a fan said.
Another fan wrote, "This is something that needed to be done!"
"The G.O.A.T has to keep an eye on Darby and Team AEW," a fan wrote.
Vince McMahon wanted Sting to retire from the squared circle in WWE
During the same interview with Kayfabe Friends, The Icon revealed that former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon wanted him to hang up his wrestling boots while still working for the Stamford-based promotion.
"I did leave it open-ended pretty much. I didn't wanna retire at that time. It was kind of a mutual deal with WWE at that time. Vince wanted me to retire under his umbrella. And at that time, I was okay with that," he said.
The Vigilante signed a deal with WWE in 2014 but had to retire in 2016 due to a serious neck injury. He remained with the company until 2020.
