A WCW legend has claimed that Tony Khan and AEW stole his "Timeless" gimmick. The name in question is Crowbar.
AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm is currently playing the "Timeless" gimmick in the Jacksonville-based promotion. The character is seemingly based on starlets from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
On his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff pointed out that Khan never asked for Crowbar's permission to use his "Timeless" gimmick in AEW. He added that the promotion should've at least given the veteran his due credit after using the character, as it was his intellectual property.
The 50-year-old agreed with Bischoff and disclosed that he had even informed Tony Khan about his gimmick when the company brought him in to compete on Dark in 2021.
"About a year and a half into the Timeless thing, I did have the opportunity to work with AEW for their Dark program when they went to Philadelphia. I was Crowbar and they sent you the form and they ask you about your character (...) I gave my history, who trained me, and how many years I'm involved, yada, yada all that good stuff but I also put the Timeless gimmick on it." [18:35 onwards]
Crowbar added that he also submitted a promo in his "Timeless" black-and-white character to Tony Khan as an idea to use during his All Elite Wrestling appearance in 2021. However, he was allegedly never acknowledged for it.
AEW performer Crowbar discussed the origin of the 'Timeless' gimmick
In the same interview, Crowbar revealed that his Timeless gimmick was a result of a compliment paid to him by Jim Cornette while the former was working in ROH.
"[Jim] he brought me in [ROH] because he knows I enjoy wrestling and I was getting dressed in the back and I guess I was in halfway decent shape, I guess looking decent for my age and he goes, 'F**k! the Timeless Devon Storm.' Devon Storm's my old name." [19:00 onwards]
The WCW legend started his wrestling career in 1992. He and Facade locked horns with The Pitbull Revolution on July 6, 2024, in a winning effort.
