It's been a few months since Mercedes Mone debuted in AEW. A WCW legend has revealed the backstage reaction to her run in the company.
Konnan is the latest to speak about Mercedes Mone's run in AEW. Mone debuted in Tony Khan's promotion a few months ago. It didn't take long for her to make an impact by capturing the TBS Championship. She then went on to win the NJPW Strong Women's Championship at Forbidden Door. Since her debut, many people have spoken about her booking in the company.
Speaking on his Keepin' It 100 podcast, Konnan addressed Mercedes' current feud with Britt Baker. He then revealed that the backstage reaction to Mone's initial run wasn't very good but no one would publicly admit it due to fear of losing their jobs:
"I thought the Mone/Baker the first one was great. I thought the second one left a lot to be desired but let's see what happens, you know. Not everything's going to be a home run and I can guarantee you this, every wrestler I've talked to and staff person knows that the show before this little run wasn't good but nobody's gonna f**k their money and nobody's gonna go out in public and be dumb and get fired or get heat." Mandy Rose speaks about Mercedes Mone getting creative control in AEW
Since turning a lot of heads with her debut at AEW Big Business, Mercedes Mone has been the talk of the town. Several critics, wrestlers, and fans have spoken about her with each passing day. Recently, a report revealed that the former WWE star has been granted creative control over her character in AEW.
Speaking on the Power Alphas podcast, Mandy Rose stated that she is happy Mercedes has creative control in AEW because she had trouble speaking out when she wasn't happy about something in WWE:
"Good for her for doing what she did and now she's able to have complete creative control which she was always big with. I remember in WWE, like, if she wasn't happy with something, it was hard for her to be able to speak out about it because certain circumstances and people really weren't going to change it. Then it was useless to even speak out cause you're just wasting your breath. So I think that's cool that she does have all of that creative control." (H/T- Wrestling Inc.)
Mercedes Mone is currently involved in a program with Britt Baker after the latter interrupted her after her match at Forbidden Door.
