A WCW legend recently discussed receiving an offer to join AEW and Chris Jericho's involvement in a potential deal that did not pan out at the time. The name in question is Konnan.
All Elite Wrestling has come a long way since its foundation in 2019. The company celebrated its five-year anniversary earlier this year with the 2024 edition of Double or Nothing. It also recently aired the 250th episode of Dynamite and currently claims a treasure trove of talent and behind-the-scenes personnel.
During a recent episode of the Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, Konnan shed light on several plans for him to appear in AEW during its early days. He claimed that when the promotion started, he was offered a role to appear alongside LAX (presumably alluding to Santana and Ortiz) and later with The Lucha Bros.
Neither of these ideas came to fruition, as Proud and Powerful eventually joined forces with Chris Jericho's Inner Circle, and the team of Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix was assigned Alex Abrahantes as their manager.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"As a matter of fact when AEW first started, I was offered a job - either come out with LAX, which is what should have happened, right.. but Jericho wanted them. And then there was talk about me coming out with Pentagon and Fenix, which, that should've been very organic. But you saw who ended up managing them, you know, the hype spaz boy himself with the Mickey Mouse gloves, and he looks like the Latino Tony Khan, Alex Abrahantes." [7:20 - 7:52]
Konnan further recollected asking Jericho to inform him if the promotion needed writers for its Mexican talent. The Learning Tree had supposedly asserted at the time that AEW did not have writers.
"So I had asked Jericho after all that... let me know if you need anybody to write for the Mexican talent. Right? He goes, 'There's no writers here.' And I was like, 'Alright,' and that was the end of that conversation." [8:07 - 8:18]

Konnan named possible replacements for Tony Khan in AEW
Tony Khan is the Creative Head of All Elite Wrestling and plays a key role in booking and producing the company's televised presentations. However, a section of fans and industry experts believe that TK is not the candidate best suited to craft AEW's product.
During an episode of Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL last month, Konnan spoke about individuals who could potentially replace Tony Khan at the helm of All Elite Wrestling creative.
"I would just put a committee of Jimmy Jacobs, Sonjay, Jeff [Jarrett], who else is back there, maybe Dean Malenko. Just put a good committee. Those guys, they have been around, they know what's going on."
However, he also implied that TK may not be willing to surrender his position as AEW's Chief Booker.
It remains to be seen how Tony Khan will continue to advance the company's ongoing storylines en route to its upcoming pay-per-view, All In 2024.
