WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross saw many stars come and go in the Stamford-based company during his decorated tenure. He recently spoke about the release of one of the most popular stars at the height of The Attitude Era.
During the latest edition of his podcast, Grilling JR, the veteran commentator shed light on the release of Tammy Lynn Sytch, popularly known as Sunny, in 1998. Although the 52-year-old was one of the top stars for the company in the mid-1990s, it was reported that Sunny was extremely difficult to work with.
Following a highly controversial four-year tenure in WWE, she was released in July 1998. During her stint, there were rumors of Sunny having issues with Sable, her addiction to painkillers, and the star not showing up on several shows.
In the latest episode of his podcast, Jim Ross stated that Sunny did not take any responsibility for her actions despite getting multiple opportunities in the Stamford-based company. The WWE Hall of Famer also claimed that he was shocked to see her last as long as she did. JR was unapologetic when he said that he patiently waited for Vince McMahon to call him so that they could 'get ''rid of her.''
“Well at some point in time, Conrad, it’s like dealing with your kids. You can love them; you can encourage them. But at some point in time, the kids have gotta do something for themselves. They gotta be responsible. They gotta show a little bit of character. And she had proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that she didn’t have any character. She was all for her. And I am shocked that we carried her around as long as we did. It’s all about her, man,'' he said.
The AEW commentator added:
''At some point you just kept — I kept waiting for that one call from Vince or, ‘Come over to my office for a second. I need to talk to you,’ and we got rid of her. I was hoping that would happen sooner than later, but she kept getting chance after chance. My God, you ran through a list of personas. Look at all the opportunities she got. She got more opportunities than anybody else I could think of.'' [H/T: PW Mania]
