WWE veteran Matt Morgan has criticized AEW President Tony Khan for possibly signing a 54-year-old legend. His name has been on people’s lips for the last week. The name who could possibly sign with the Jacksonville-based promotion is none other than Shane McMahon.
Shane broke the internet earlier this week when his picture with Tony Khan went viral. That sparked a lot of speculation from fans as to what could be the next steps. Shane also sent out a message saying that he had met Tony to talk about their shared love for the business.
While speaking on the Gigantic Pop podcast, TNA legend Matt Morgan said that he does not see what Shane McMahon would bring to AEW.
“I don't see what he does for that company. He is a general manager on air character. Ok, that would be cool the first night. Just for the sheer pop or reaction of a McMahon no longer being in WWE and being for the rival company. For that one minute. Then, as the saying goes, the bell rings and what do we do with him? I don't know.” [50: 05 - 50:30]

Matt Morgan says former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon investing in AEW could make an impact
During the same interview, Matt Morgan went on to say about how Shane McMahon could not bring anything of note to AEW. He said there is one way an impact could be made. That is, if the former owners of WWE, the McMahons, invest in All Elite Wrestling.
“I know he wants to be. I wish he was because he is such a big fan. You can tell he is, Tony but he is not. I don't think there is any meat in the bone with that, with Shane. I just don't see what you do beside that first initial ‘holy s**t, Shane McMahon is in AEW’ reaction, the first night he gets there. I just don't see what the overall payoff would be unless, which will never happen, somehow the McMahons have invested in the company and they are legitimately partial owners, which will never happen. But if that did, that would then raise my eyebrows like what the hell is going on here?” [50:43 - 51:21]
If that ever happens and McMahon does indeed invest in AEW, there could be a seismic shift in the wrestling landscape. It will be interesting to see what happens next with the former WWE star.
