The AEW roster features several experienced wrestling legends, which seems to be a must-have for the young company. Samoa Joe is one of these veterans, along with names like Chris Jericho and Madison Rayne. Joe has built a loyal army of fans over the years, but he also has his admirers within the business, as just revealed by the most controversial star of the AEW women's division.
The King of Television has not wrestled in 175 days. Joe's last match was the Stampede Street Fight loss to Jericho on Dynamite in mid-July, which led to the former NXT Champion being temporarily written out of the storylines to work on various non-AEW projects. As of last month, Joe is now in his 25th year as a pro wrestler and is reportedly set to return from hiatus at any time following recent viral comments on his future with the company.
The Glamour does not watch her competition in action. Speaking to The Zaslow Show, May revealed Joe as her favorite wrestler after making a controversial remark on her colleagues in the locker room. The UK star was asked which wrestlers she likes to sit back and watch when she's not in the ring performing:
"Hmmm... definitely not any of the girls. The only girl I like to watch is myself on playback, but if I had to pick one of the guys... I mean, my favorite's probably Samoa Joe, who I miss. I miss him, where is he?," Mariah May wondered. [From 7:11 to 7:27]
A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.
May was then asked what is so great about Joe that she loves. The 2024 Women's Owen Hart Cup winner praised Joe for being real, which she admires in a world of nonsense and dress-up:
"I think he’s just real. He’s so real, every promo he does... I'm not one for nonsense, dreams, and fantasies, I say it how it is. I think Samoa Joe... people hated him, they love him now, but he’s someone who just says it how it is. Even the way he wrestles, it’s so real, so honest, that I just think... I like that. I like that kind of stuff in a world of nonsense and everybody playing dress-up, I like Samoa Joe," May said. [From 7:28 to 7:58]
May recently passed the four month mark of her first reign as AEW Women's World Champion. She dethroned Toni Storm at All In on August 25 and just made her seventh defense with the Tijuana Street Fight win over Thunder Rosa at Worlds End on December 28.
